Happy 2010!

I want to wish all of our customers and friends a happy new year! 2010 will be an exciting year for me as I will be giving birth to a baby boy in March! I started Cheekybean after the birth of my daughter. She (and her never-ending spit-up) inspired me to start a line of sassy baby essentials, beginning with burp cloths... and Cheekybean has grown from there. I am excited to have a new Cheekybean (boy!) mascot in the new year to inspire more boy items. Stay tuned!

Check out our new Wild Thing and All Star burp cloths for boys »
Matching towels and wee wee canopies to come... they can be ordered custom (by contact form or email) until then.

Idea #3: Fill Your Diaper

Danielle from San Diego, California brings us this wonderful baby shower idea: a "fill your diaper" candy station! First, fill glass bowls or tall vases with bite size candy bars. Then make diapers from felt, pinned with safety pins and cute charms from your local craft store. Set out on a table with a sign that says, "Fill your diaper" and let guests stock up on their favorite candy before leaving the party. This may be the cutest baby shower favor we've ever seen!

Idea #2: Special Big Sister/Brother Status at Baby Shower

Having a baby shower for a second or third baby is an etiquette controversy but many moms have friends and family who want to celebrate, regardless of how many additions there are to the family. Some people didn't get a shower for their first child or they are having a different gender than the first or it's been a decade since the first... but whatever the reason, we like to celebrate. So cheers to baby showers (or "pamper parties") in whatever form they come in!

If Big Sister or Big Brother is attending the celebration, it is thoughtful to involve them. Becoming a big sister/brother is a huge change at any age and so much talk and attention centers around the unborn baby, it can be helpful to make Big Sister/Brother feel special!

You can create a Big Sister/Brother Kit out of a box or a basket, which would include a few items to help out with the baby: pacifiers if they're the binky-fetching type, books to read to the baby, art supplies to make a card to welcome the baby... you get the idea. You can also include little things just for them - stickers, a big sister shirt or anything really that they will enjoy playing with. They don't care if it fits the theme; they just like getting a gift, particularly when their mom just scored 20 gifts for the baby.

You can also create a Big Sister name tag. In this case, we created a VIP "backstage pass" for Big Sister, Taylor, at her mom's rock star baby shower.

Exclusive Cheekybean Hair Bows

Our brand spankin' new line of hair bows has arrived in our online shop! They are about three inches wide and aside from the obvious - like utter sassiness and fabulous quality - we can boast that these will fit your tot from babyhood all the way into the school-age years. How, you ask? They are backed with our high quality ribbon-lined pinch clips. So even if your newborn hasn't the slightest fuzz upon her crown, you can clip the bow onto a woven hairband or a crocheted cap. The oversized bow on an itty bitty princess makes for a great photo opp! Because the bows are large, they will also work well on toddlers and school-aged children. Versatile and available exclusively at www.lovecheekybean.com!

Idea #1: Baby Shower Stations

Here at Cheekybean, we enjoy all things baby! From planning baby showers to shopping for unique baby gifts to raising sweet tots, we love it all. We'd like to start sharing our ideas on all of these topics, as well as hearing yours!

Our first idea comes straight from yours truly. I was planning my sister's twin baby shower and looking for something to make it a little unique. I decided to decorate in 4 stations: feeding, sleeping, changing and bathing stations. I made signs and bought baby items that doubled as decoration and gifts at each station.

The feeding station featured Cheekybean burrrp cloths (of course!) and I decorated one of the walls with cute bibs. You can buy removable plastic hooks that won't pull the paint off your walls upon removal to make a decorative wall like ours. Look for the Command brand hooks at your local Target.

For the changing station, I put out a changing pad and a box of diapers, wipes, diaper cream, etc. Your guest of honor will be pleasantly surprised when she finds out that any of the decor is hers for the taking so remember that if the stations start running up your bill, you can always use your own goodies or borrow some to decorate with.

I used a console table as the sleeping station, covering it in a baby blanket and sassy pillow. I tucked in a stuffed animal and a bedtime story.

For the bathing station, I filled tubs with sodas and drinks, tossed in some rubber duckies and added towels and washcloths around the tubs. You can tie ribbons onto just about anything (like the tub handles, in this case) to sweeten up the room.

Lastly, greet guests at the door and request that they put their gifts at the station most fitting. My sister was on bedrest by the time the shower day arrived so this was an especially fitting way to divide up the gift-opening so that she didn't have to be upright for long periods of time. Besides, let's face it. We can only oooh and ahhh for so long before we need another drink and some mingle time!

Sharing our Ideas (and yours!)

I've been told once or twice that the baby showers I host are creative. I put a lot of time into the planning so I think it's fair to agree! I've also been complimented on creative baby shower and birthday gift ideas. (Let me pause while I pat myself on the back...)

I'd like to begin sharing some of these ideas via the Cheekybean blog (stay tuned!) and I'd like to invite you to share yours too. Email your idea, story and pictures to hotmama [at] lovecheekybean.com!

Cheekybean Introduces Wee Wee Canopies

On March 8, we introduced our newest product, Wee Wee Canopies, in our online boutique. The Wee Wee Canopy is a miniature tent that covers baby boy's potty-maker during diaper changes, preventing parents and anyone in the near vicinity from being a victim of the golden fountain. Unlike similar products, we line our Wee Wee Canopies with terrycloth for better absorption. Our Wee Wee Canopies come as a pair and make an adorable, yet very practical baby shower gift.
